How do I get certified as a SUD counselor?
MARSTE Training Services has agreements with CCAPP and CADTP, two of the agencies that are authorized to grant Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD) counselor certification. CCAPP and CADTP both require 315 hours of academic coursework to become eligible to test for certification. Our online school offers 6 classes that meet the requirements and prepares students to take the AOD certifying exams. Each course is 8 weeks long and is fully online through Canvas. MARSTE also provides a 7th (online) Practicum course which is 12 weeks long and covers all 6 class subjects in preparation for the exam. The Practicum/Internship is a capstone course, taken after a student has completed at least four MTS academic courses.
How long will it take to complete all the classes?
MARSTE’s SUD program consists of 6 classes which are all 8 weeks long and 45 hours/3 units each, plus the MTS-07 Practicum course which is 12 weeks long and is only held twice a year, so 7 classes in total. Our program takes a little over a year to complete.
Do I have to buy books?
Our SUD program is 100% online through Canvas and classes consist of weekly readings, videos, presentations, journal articles, and a main discussion board. We will provide some materials for you to download directly, and also provide links to online resources for you to use for each module, so you do not need to buy any books.
Do you offer payment plans?
For students who wish to pay over time, we offer the option to make two monthly payments to cover the total cost of the course tuition. You’ll pay half when you register for the class and the second payment about halfway through the course.
What’s the difference between CCAPP and CADTP?
CCAPP and CADTP are two of the licensing boards approved by the California Department of Health Care Services. Both utilize the IC&RC exam process for certification. CCAPP and CADTP require continuing education after certification and certifications must be renewed every two years. Please visit their websites for specific educational requirements.
What happens if I need to skip a class?
Classes don’t always run in order but we usually run two different courses concurrently. If you need to take a break, you can enroll for your next class when it comes around in the schedule. Click here to see our current class schedule. There is a two-week break in classes that run during the winter holiday season.
